Peace Be with You
Ordinary Time • Week 14
“Jesus therefore said to them again, ‘Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’”
—John 20:21
Collect
Lord Jesus Christ, who restore those who have fallen and entrust them again with your service: Grant us repentant hearts, steadfast love, and faithful hands to tend your flock; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Psalm 85:8–13
World English Bible (WEB)
8 I will hear what God, the Lord, will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people, his saints;
but let them not turn again to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,
that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth meet together.
Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 Truth springs out of the earth.
Righteousness has looked down from heaven.
12 Indeed, the Lord will give that which is good.
Our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness goes before him,
and prepares the way for his steps.
John 20:19–23
World English Bible (WEB)
19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the middle and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.
21 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
22 When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit!
23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they have been forgiven them. If you retain anyone’s sins, they have been retained.”
Closing Prayer
God of peace, who sent your risen Son into the world with words of comfort and hope, fill us with your Holy Spirit. Make us faithful ambassadors of Christ’s peace, forgiveness, and reconciling love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
